Planning a wedding can be exciting, challenging, and downright unnerving.  The Woodruff-Fontaine house has a preferred caterer list, and can recommend vendors to fit your needs and budget.

From spring till  November when the grounds  are in bloom, the scenery is enhanced by nature, you might not need to have additional decorations.  The front lawn can accommodate up to 250 guests.

Wedding Receptions

 You can choose from our rustic-English feel Club Room or Carriage House for your wedding reception.

 The Club Room provides an ambience of a rustic-English feel.  It truly takes you back to the period of when the house was built.  There are two large and two smaller rooms featuring brick, stone, beamed ceilings and four faux fireplaces.  The Club Room can accommodate up to 250 people.  You can dance the night away.

  The Carriage House accommodates up to 250 people should you need to host a bigger wedding reception.  This charming Carriage House has open French doors that lead to the outside garden.  It is a perfect venue for a spring or summer wedding when nature is at its best!  The Carriage House features two large rooms, a bride’s room, a large caterer’s kitchen, and restrooms upstairs and downstairs.  On the second floor is a spacious area for the bride and her party to get ready for the wedding, and a window that looks out to the front lawn.

Our beautiful garden by day and by night.

A tent can be set up by a vendor and beautifully decorated with chandeliers and ceiling draping to make sure every moment of your wedding is perfect.  During the cooler season, the sides of the tent may be wrapped to provide heating or air conditioning.

The Gingerbread House located in the garden is also available for rent should you need an area for children to gather during your wedding reception.

In May we began an architectural tour given by Gregory Morrison, one of our newest volunteer docents. The tour   features. We learned more more about its’ architects, Baldwin and Jones, who played a major role in shaping Memphis’ nineteenth-century built environment. Future Friday tours will shed further light on Victorian Memphis history and highlight elements from the APTA’s collection of decorative arts. Mr. Morrison currently works as an Architectural Designer at A2H, Inc. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cultural and Historic Preservation from Salve Regina University, in Newport, Rhode Island and a Master of Architecture from The University of Tennessee.

First Friday “Wedding Belles”

For your enjoyment, the Woodruff-Fontaine House Museum brings you an elegant evening fit for a blushing bride! From our archives, we present a beautiful collection of nostalgic wedding dresses! Each dress with its own story from right here in Tennessee! Enjoy an intimate “white glove” showing of dresses straight from storage! Memphis collector, Tim Minshew displays his exquisite, private collection of antique and vintage cake plates and servers for this exclusive evening event!

First Friday “Southern Summers”

Woodruff-Fontaine House Museum invites you to celebrate all things “Southern Summers” with us! Take a closer look at some of our Southern customs and traditions that only happen during the dog days of summer. A collection of cool, crisp and “barely there cotton textiles will be on display throughout the museum. Outside in the back garden, a genteel croquet game and refreshing fete await in the cool summer evening.

The Speakeasy

Strut your stuff and help us break in our new garden! Come early to enjoy late afternoon spirits in the garden and stay late for dancing under the stars. All proceeds benefit preservation efforts at the Woodruff-Fontaine House Museum made by APTA Memphis. The museum will be open and themed for the season, fashioned with period pieces from our large textile collection. Celebrate an evening of Gatsbyesque entertainment and traditional imbibements! Individual tickets $25 and tables available for larger parties, wfhouse@bellsouth.net to inquire.

The Haunted Happenings (This event will happen in just a few weeks October 31, 2014)

Please join us for our 6th Annual Fall Fundraiser to benefit preservation efforts by Memphis Chapter, APTA. A truly unique evening of “spirited” fun! For one night only, the museum transforms into a haunted mansion! Spectral docents lead tours through the darkened halls, with ghost stories at every turn! Visit with gypsy fortune tellers and other Victorian themed Halloween fun. Expedition Unknown, local TAPS family members will be conducting a LIVE paranormal investigation during the evening and sharing actual haunted evidence from inside the Mansion. Traditional turn of the century Hallow’een treats served in the carriage house. Admission $20. Group reservations may be accepted by calling the museum 901-526-1469. A romantic evening inside the WF! Beautifully set for spring with textiles in shades of pink and purple heralding the season of love! Tour all three floors to unlock the rules of Victorian courtship, understand the language of fans and flowers, and fall in love with the WF’s own historical love stories. Decadent chocolates and sweets round out the evening with TABLEAUX VIVANTS, living pictures, themed for this special occasion! $15 single/$25 couple…To benefit preservation and restoration projects to The Woodruff-Fontaine House Museum by APTA Memphis Chapter

Christmas and Yuletide Tea (Upcoming Events…stay tuned)

Enjoy a gloriously festive afternoon at the WF with A Yuletide Tea. Featuring a presentation on Victorian Yuletide customs and a stroll through the mansion. Each floor has been trimmed and decorated for the Holidays! A delicious old fashioned tea will be laid out for your enjoyment.

 Spend an evening filled with the spirit of the season! See the mansion lit by twinkling lights and enjoy the festive ambience that only the beautiful, historic WF can provide. Each floor is trimmed with care and attention to the traditions of a Victorian Yuletide! Reception and entertainment provided. $20 suggested donation.
